Pastoral Care & Safeguarding

Wellbeing First

Pastoral Care & Safeguarding

At Camilla Brook School, we prioritise the wellbeing and pastoral care of every pupil, nurturing a supportive environment where each child can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.

Our pastoral care system is supported by form tutors who serve as mentors — building strong relationships through regular one-on-one sessions and group discussions, and providing personalised guidance and encouragement. Students have access to confidential counselling services and take part in workshops and mindfulness sessions to build resilience and emotional intelligence.

Our Policies

Keeping Every Child Safe

Health & Safety Policy

Children's health and safety is the School's foremost responsibility. Parents must complete a Medical Form for each child upon registration, updating it whenever a need arises. In the event of a serious injury or illness, parents/guardians are notified immediately; if they cannot be reached in a reasonable time, the Head of School arranges transport to hospital.

Fire drills are practised regularly — pupils evacuate quickly, quietly, and in an orderly manner through designated exits. All visitors must sign in at the Security Post and wear a visitor's tag; parents must also sign in and out when picking up their wards.

Parents will be asked to pick up their child when there is:

  • Vomiting or severe diarrhea
  • A serious injury
  • A temperature of 37°C or above
  • A red, swollen, or draining eye
  • A skin rash

Child Protection Policy

We are deeply committed to safeguarding our pupils, following the procedures outlined in the Nigeria Child Rights Act (2003) and the Ministry of Education's guidance. Our school strives to be a stable, secure, and supportive environment for every child, especially those who are vulnerable — our behaviour policy makes clear that while some behaviours are unacceptable, pupils themselves are always valued and never blamed for their circumstances.

Designated Child Protection Officer

A dedicated, trained officer oversees child protection across the school.

Staff Awareness & Responsibility

Every staff member is trained to recognise signs of abuse and report concerns.

Parental Understanding

Our child protection responsibilities are communicated clearly to parents.

Agency Collaboration

We maintain effective links with relevant agencies, including Social Services.

Secure Record Keeping

Concerns about children are recorded securely, separate from the main pupil file.

Safe Recruitment

Strict recruitment practices safeguard the wellbeing of every pupil.

Anti-Bullying Policy

We define bullying as "being made unhappy by the deliberate and continued actions and/or words of others." At Camilla Brook School, bullying is anti-social, contrary to our ethos, and will not be tolerated — we promote an environment where it is never an offence to tell someone about bullying.

Disciplinary Steps

  • An official warning to stop, with a genuine apology required.
  • The case is monitored to ensure there is no repetition.
  • The bully's parents/guardians are informed.
  • Parents of the bully are invited for a conference.

Physical

Hitting, kicking, throwing things, spitting, or damaging/taking another pupil's belongings.

Verbal

Threats, name-calling (including sectarian or racist), teasing, insulting, or taunting.

Emotional

Being unfriendly, excluding, tormenting, spreading rumours, or giving looks.

Cyber

Nasty or threatening calls, messages, or posting abusive comments, images, or videos online.
